Did you know? October is Merlot Month

I just learned that October is Merlot Month. There is even a hashtag – #MerlotMe. It reminded me that back in the day I was a HUGE Merlot fan. In college, I started with the sweet rose wines but as soon as I graduated and began attending “big girl” work functions, I started to realize I enjoyed red wine, particularly Merlot.

Over time I started to appreciateĀ big, bold, juicy reds, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and the like more than the lighter-bodied reds. Merlot took a back seat. But I will always look back on it fondly as the wine that turned me into a “grown up.”

So tonight is #MerlotMe eve. Maybe I’ll shop for a new one to try for old time’s sake. Anyone have any suggestions?

  1. I love the hashtag “#MerlotMe”, it is so catchy and makes me want to apply it to my own social media presence! As someone who’s just starting to really get into wine, it’s really interesting to hear about this type of wine and the bold flavors it can emote! Thanks for sharing this!

  2. Merlot really is yummy! If you’re trying it for the first time, be sure to read the back of the bottle for a description of the taste. Try one that has more fruit at first. Velvety finish is another descriptor that you want to see. Many stores also will list the ratings for the wine – pick one that’s 92 and above for best results! Enjoy!
